All Buccaneer Caravans are lighter for 2012

A major focus in our product development for 2012 has been reducing weights using advanced materials technology. We believe this to be critically important for our customers.
The recent rapid increase in the cost of fuel has put added pressure upon caravanners and as vehicle manufacturers seek to mitigate rising fuel costs by building ever lighter cars with more limited towing capacity, it is most important for us to recognise this trend and seek to reduce the weights of our products whilst maintaining the highest possible quality of construction.
Customers also need to have choice when deciding on the purchase of a new caravan or motorhome and by making significant strides forward in terms of weight reduction, Elddis are able to offer a wider range of products where customers do not have to consider the additional cost of changing their tow vehicle.
Here are some examples of the weight reductions we have achieved for 2012
| Model | 2011 MTPLM | 2012 MTPLM |
|---|---|---|
| Avante 540 | 1490kg | 1412kg |
| Avante 554 | 1490kg | 1395kg |
| Avante 624 Twin Axle | 1650kg | 1550kg |
| Odyssey 540 | 1550kg | 1470kg |
| Crusader Supersirocco | 1820kg | 1780kg |
We have achieved these weight savings through the use of advanced materials technology and construction methods identified as a result of an extensive ongoing research and development programme. The Avante weight savings have been achieved through the introduction of a new fully bonded roof construction, improved interior furniture construction and an all new fully bonded floor featuring a waterproof GRP under skin which not only saves weight but offers greatly improved protection from the elements and water ingress.
Saving weight is very easy if you simply want to construct something that is intrinsically flimsy, but Elddis are committed to building products that are light but feel strong and well built. A recent significant investment for instance has allowed us to build thick structural furniture components such as gables using a bonded foam sandwich construction method that is not only stronger but is lighter in weight than the plywood it replaced.
Elddis weight savings for 2012 will not only save our customers fuel but will also ensure that they have the widest choice of models to suit their needs. Even twin axle caravans, once the preserve of those who had a large 4 x 4 tow car have become accessible with the 2012 Elddis Avante 624 having an incredible MTPLM of just 1550kg.
